The science, culture and economics of Europe’s land
This Blog/Website is the home of an educational partnership involving twelve schools and colleges from twelve nations of Europe. The aim of the partnership is to research and answer a question that concerns all Europe:-
“Science, culture and economics. Together can they ensure Europe’s land and resources are managed effectively?”
The partnership will involve a series of educational conferences that focus on different aspects of managing Europe’s land and natural resources. These conferences will be attended by student delegates from the partnership institutions who have an interest in the conference theme.

Dutch conference: tasks
Dutch Conference April 6th till 12th 2014
Tasks for the participating countries: Norway, Spain, Germany, France, Bulgaria, Romania.
I. Give a short presentation of yourself, your school and your town. You can use Powerpoint or Prezi. Approximately 10 minutes per group.
II. Make a list of cultural differences between your country and the Netherlands. Try to think of 4 to 5 cultural differences. For instance: eating & drinking, climate, tolerance, attitude towards hierarchy, rules and laws etc.
III. Find out how to make a SWOT-analysis. Have a look at: http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newTMC_05.htm
IV. Do a little preparation on flowers.
a. Visit some local flower shops and try to find out:
– From bulb till flower. Which flowers in the shop are imported? From which country?
Which flowers are grown in your own country? Are the flower bulbs imported? From
where?
– Does the economic climate affect sales of flowers in your region?
b. Collect some general information on some flowers: Fill in the table below.
V. Do some soil research.
When you come to the Netherlands, take with you: two samples (each ca 500 gram) of soil from your region (agriculture). One sample depth 0-10 cm and one sample depth 20-30 cm.
Please send me the results of task II and IV as a word document by March 21th 2014 via email.
